GCPS recently launched the 2024-25 learning series for the Internationally Trained Teacher Support Network (ITTSN) with a kick-off event at Eleanor Roosevelt High School. More than 80 internationally trained educators gathered to begin a year of professional development and connection, aimed at supporting their success in the classroom.

Since its launch in 2020, ITTSN has provided internationally trained teachers (ITTs) with resources and opportunities to navigate the challenges of teaching in new environments. The program focuses on professional growth, leadership development, and creating a supportive network for ITTs in PGCPS.

Key highlights from the event included:

  • Social Emotional Learning (SEL) Session: Robin McNair, Restorative Approaches Coordinator, led a session on how emotional intelligence can transform the classroom.

  • Building a Sense of Belonging: Betsy White, Diversity Strategy Officer, shared strategies to create inclusive and welcoming learning environments.

  • Q&A with PGCPS Leaders: A panel of administrators addressed questions on teacher evaluations, cross-cultural relationships, and more.

  • Alumni Success Stories: Former participants shared how the program helped shape their careers as impactful educators.

  • National Board Certification Pathways: Dr. Shona Sandlin introduced the process for teachers interested in pursuing National Board Certification.

The event, sponsored by Valu Teachers, included meals and raffle prizes.
